Thanks for the tips! Wood floors like to move/contract with moisture in the room and changing of the seasons. If you do not allow for this movement by putting something close to a ton on top of it which can’t breathe underneath, on winter the wood starts contracting, the very first spring and summer there after will keep that contraction permanent around the immobile, heavy object.

I liked the idea of removing gum with a putty knife!
This is what we always tell our customers:

    Dry-cleaning of the floor:

Preferably remove loose dirt with a vacuum cleaner or soft broom. Any remaining grains of sand may cause scratches in the surface. Dry-clean the oiled floor daily.

    Wet cleaning of the floor:

Mop stubborn dirt away with water and wood floor cleaner. Clean the floor with a well squeezed mop. Allow the floor to dry completely before walking on it.
